It was bound to happen!
Took the cylinders and pistons to Larry and he agrees they look good. Finally exposed the underside of the engine, and started cleaning to see what was what! Discovered a crack in the aluminum between the three oil drain bolts! Some disappointment ensued! I think this engine is toast... Any different opinions? There is a great community online ,and at least 3 other bikes in the region being restored...so I'll reach out to them for some expertise.

So much for waiting. I realized that once the head is off the block just pulls up over the cylinders... So that's what I did. Other than a pile of carbon on the piston heads the cylinders and pistons look OK... To my eye they aren't scored at all and the rings look fine. But I'll get a second opinion. Do I need to clear the carbon off the piston heads? How do I get the heads off the arm? The 2 snap-rings are out but the elbow pin just doesn't want to slide out! |
