This thing is dirty! ... here's the underside of the engine... And I cannot get a couple of the case screws out! It is almost like they are glued! The gasket needs to come off... and i might need a new cover plate... cracked. UPDATE: Acquired an impact driver and figured out how to use it. Screws came out like butter. :-) Everything looks great under the covers. I don't like the goop used under the cover plate - But I don't think it needs a real "gasket". Just something to keep the dust out. Now to clean the underside and explore a little more. I disconnected the oil-regulator/carb cables so that makes it easier. :-)

I came home from work yesterday and disconnected the wiring harness. Astoundingly all the connections just popped right out. Tonight I rigged up a hoist for the engine, removed the bolts holding it into the frame, popped it onto a table and cleaned up the exterior a little. Everything was extremely covered in dirt, oil and grime... but it seems to have protected the parts really well. Sure hope I can put everything back together! :-) Disassembly complete. Parts moved to the bsmt for evaluation. The goal is to get the engine cleaned up so it starts next year. If that happens then the rest of the bits will get some attention.
In 2013 my cousin and wife came for a visit.
I always liked Donald! He reminds me of his Dad and our Grandpa.... But I grew up on PEI and he lives in Bellville... so we didn't see much of each other growing up and that's a shame! Anywhoo... we were talking around the dinner table one night, after he had taken my '81 Seca for a spin, and he said "I have an old Suzuki in my shed at home. It hasn't started in 20+ years... Do you want it?"... umm... Yeah! So I started to research what it might be. This it the first pic that I saw of it and... I was smitten. |
